Marty Rea to star in Nancy Harris's Druid Debut 'The Beacon'

Renowned actor of stage and screen Marty Rea will take to the Gate Theatre stage to star in a brand new play by award-winning Irish playwright Nancy Harris. The Beacon is a testament to the Druid Theatre Company's commitment to "only produce new plays in 2019" and to nurture emerging talent within a contemporary Ireland.

The play centres around Beiv, a celebrated artist, who has moved from suburban Dublin to her holiday cottage on an island off the coast of West Cork. However, a dark shadow from the past hangs over her, and when her estranged son and his new young wife arrive to stay, she is faced with some difficult questions.

The play will be directed by Garry Hynes - one of the founding members of Druid, and a veteran of Irish theatre. It will also mark Nancy Harris's return to the Gate, following the success of her 2017 production of The Red Shoes.

The Beacon stars Jane Brennan, Rea Gray, Cillian Ó Gairbhí, and Voicebank's Marty Rea. It will run from 2 - 12 October, with previews in Galway running from 20 - 28 September.
