Barry McGovern has been an actor for many decades. He is an ex-member of the RTE Players and the Abbey Theatre Company. He has appeared in many plays with most of the Irish theatre companies and in many television and feature films. He has narrated many documentaries and voiced many characters in TV programmes. His one-man Beckett shows have toured worldwide. He has narrated a number of audio books, notably Samuel Becket's Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable, Joseph O'Connor's Shadowplay and James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake.
Barry's awards include the Harvey's Award for best actor for 'I'll Go On'; the Edinburgh Festival Angel award for Krapp's Last Tape; the Los Angeles Ovation award for Waiting for Godot; the International Radio Festival of New York Gold Medal for Embers and Best Performance by an actor for The Silent Passenger. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Letters by Trinity College Dublin.
